“Wow!” A client recently remarked to Teresa Meryman upon seeing her in a sundress. “I knew you worked out, but…wow!”

An avid athlete growing up in central Florida, Teresa Meryman had an insatiable thirst for sports and competition. Now, she’s a sharp paralegal by day and a figure competitor working for her pro card by…well, by morning, by night, by weekend, and every other waking moment.

Teresa has never met a sport she didn’t like – kickboxing, cheerleading, softball, swimming, surfing, water skiing; she’s done it all. One of the many sports she grew up with was fishing, both freshwater and saltwater. Aside from sports, Teresa loves reading and watching movies. But her true passion is training!

Teresa’s incredible drive was evident early on. She started training at age 13, holding her own against the football players she trained with. Teresa always impressed because she could bench more than her body weight. She struggled to gain weight, but graduated high school at only 85 pounds. Since then, she’s worked long and hard to gain nearly 35 pounds of muscle and become a nationally ranked competitor.

Though she was recently sidelined with an injured tendon, Teresa is a hard worker and has dedicated herself to getting back into prime condition so she can once again compete at Nationals. Last April, she placed 13th at the NPC Junior USA in Charleston. She also finished 5th in March’s Sunshine Classic. Teresa was green to competition just a few years ago, and she started out with a bang – six competitions in one year! At each show, she says, you learn more and take something new away, and this has helped her get her to the place she is in now. She’s determined to learn from her past experiences and says that in 2008, she’s going to treat her body well and condition the right way to do it.

This is a woman who knows what she wants and gets it, so we are sure to hear more about this multitalented professional. Teresa sums up her incredible work ethic like this: “I set a goal to attain and once I’m in the gym, it’s my drive.” And as her client’s comments demonstrate, she keeps her work life and her gym life separate. Teresa describes it as different hats she puts on: during business hours she wears her corporate, suit & heels legal hat to meet with clients and work on cases. Though her co-workers and some clients may see her healthy and consistent eating habits or know that she goes out of town for competitions, her gym life is not something she discusses at work. And at the gym, it’s the driven, hardcore trainer hat instead of the corporate America businesswoman. Juggling these personalities can’t be easy, but Teresa does it with style. With her positive outlook and commitment to succeed, it’s bound to be an exciting season!
